Spring has always been one of my favorite seasons. I enjoy the warm weather, blue skies, and of course the beautiful Spring colors that make for some interesting photographs. This Spring, I was privileged to be able to enjoy quite a few days trackside taking pictures. Here is a summary of my Spring travels:

Back in April, my Dad and I, as well as a good friend traveled Virginia and North Carolina to chase Norfolk & Western 611 on the former Southern and Virginian. The scenery was spectacular which is one of many reasons why I continue returning to the region. I also enjoyed seeing lots of fans out chasing. We also were able to venture west of Roanoke to chase the Penn Central Heritage locomotive on the former Norfolk & Western. Here are a few images from the trip.

Photo 1: N&W 611 roars under the classic Southern signal bridge at Smothers, Virginia en route to Greensboro, North Carolina with the Roanoker excursion. Scenes like this will soon be a thing of the past as many of these signal bridges already have replacements standing next to them.

Photo 2: On an absolutely gorgeous morning, N&W 611 leads the Roanoker excursion across the Dan River Bridge at Danville, Va.

Photo 3: NS train 22A swings through a curve at Marion, Virginia with the Penn Central Heritage unit leading as some Spring greens are beginning to pop in the surrounding area. Thanks to RockIsland4310 for the heads up on this train.

About a week after returning home from North Carolina and Virginia, I learned that Norfolk Southern's Erie Heritage Unit was leading intermodal train 22K and would be passing through my area. I quickly got trackside and began my chase from Berea to Conneaut. I included my favorite two images from my chase. A few days after catching 22K, I was able to photograph the Reading Heritage locomotive leading train 12V on the Norfolk Southern Fort Wayne Line.

Photo 4: Norfolk Southern's Erie Heritage locomotive leads train 22K eastbound on the former NKP past the location of it's namesake rails. The former Erie trackage used to be located right between the NKP and the RTA.

Photo 5: Quite a ways east of Cleveland, I photographed 22K once more, this time crossing the Grand River Trestle at Painesville, Ohio as it continues its trek east on the former Nickel Plate Road.

Photo 6: After completing it's work at Canton, NS train 12V roars through Louisville, Ohio under threatening skies with the Reading Heritage Unit leading as it passes some curious cows posing for a picture.

Photo 7: I was able to swing by the Toledo Amtrak Station on May 7th to photograph the Honoring First Responders locomotive sitting on display at Toledo Train Day in Toledo, Ohio. Here, the locomotive is pictured getting ready to pull out of the station after the event.

Photo 8: Norfolk Southern train No. 169 rolls through Canton, Ohio with the Illinois Terminal Heritage motor leading the Birmingham bound train into the evening sun.

As always, thanks for all the kind feedback on my photography. It means a lot to me! Have a great week.
