What Getting Up Early Gets You
Author: Auburn_Ed

Yesterday I posted (on Nostalgia) a photo of a car-full of railfans heading out before dawn on the Nevada Northern for sunrise run-bys.  Here are some results.  February, 2016.

Are you certain you didn't sleep in and use a time machine to get this? It looks absolutely "timeless".

Ed, I don't quite know how to express this, except to say that you get more out of a scene than almost anyone else.  WOW! is usually my first expression in viewing one of your many fine posts.  AA

Great stuff, Ed.  The NNRy is sure photogenic and you bring out the best of it.

They're both outstanding, but the first one is just nearly perfect daybreak light - nice and warm, yet still with somewhat dark skies.

That said, I still choose to reject the idea that the world exists before about 0830h.

Simply incredibly beautiful photos.  I love both
of them.  Timeless.......You must have gotten
your Delorean up to 88 mph, and one back in
time 100 years.

Your photos are always very beautiful.  Thank you
very much for getting up at 0-dark-thirty and taking
and then sharing these gems.  They look like fine
paintings by an excellent artist.

Wow..... Jaw. On. Floor.

DEFINITE IOTD.

Wow.......

Those photos should be printed large, and framed and
hung in a big-city art gallery for many to enjoy.

Looks too perfect to be a photo, looks like a painting!

Number One is Super !   Looks like a painting that belongs in an Orchard Supply Hardware calendar.

#1 is quite the pic.

You might consider making this available to the Nevada Northern, the Ely Chamber of Commerce, or the Nevada state tourism agency.

Help them promote steam tourism...

I was thinking the same thing.  These look like Howard Fogg paintings.  Wow!

As one who is pictured in your "car full of fans" image posted on the 29th, I can say with all sincerity, that it wasn't the getting up early that was the tough part of that morning. It was the standing around in appx 25 degree temps for over an hour on frozen ground in the Steptoe Creek wash waiting for the sunrise that allowed us to capture images like this.  Was it worth it? ABSOLUTELY! Would I do it again? IN A HEARTBEAT! But I think I'll wait until Mark and company get #81 up and running. Thanks for the reminder of that morning Ed! It was a great weekend for sure.

Very very nice, great work.
Keep telling myself I need to go to that event, and never seem to do it.

To go to East Ely, Nevada, and have a couple of steam engines practically at your beck and call, well, it will be right up there with the very few "best" experiences of your life.
