UP 1943 Display Tour - First Stop
Author: TexBob

Not exactly part of the formal tour that's ongoing, but close enough...

After its GHWB funeral train assistance was completed on Thursday, 12/6/18, UP parked 1943 at Eureka yard for about 8 hours that evening.
Early Friday morning, it was taken to Spring for the return trip to Council Bluffs.

In a stroke of luck that will never be outdone, the unit was in a location that was free of weeds. It was almost as if somebody had just trimmed
the weeds. Of course that's ridiculous because nobody is trimming weeds at midnight.

This is, IMHO, the best looking locomotive out there today...

And probably nobody in the apartments behind was a railfan like usins'!!
What a miss for them...as they were watching TV, sleeping or involved in other activities.
Note:  See the silhouette of the air horns on the apartment wall on the far right.

Did they complain about the sound of the weed-wacker?

No. Battery powered trimmer.
Nice job reading between the lines...

It is clear from reading the other posts that I'm going to be the outlier here - I think this is the silliest paint scheme I've ever seen on a loco. Compare it to a PRR Tuscan Red E-unit with gold "cat's whiskers" or, for that matter, almost any other scheme. The front 2/3s are busy enough but what is goin on at the "back end"? Are we so starved for variety that we think this is a good scheme? Different? Yes. Ugly? Yes.

But of course, taste is in the mind of the beholder, so please don't torch me......

We have a few individuals that carry chainsaws with them here in northern Illinois and Indiana.  Dan

I don't carry a chain saw, but I do carry a battery powered sawzall and a pole saw that will reach out about 20 feet to get a few low hanging branches.
There are several places here in western North Carolina that need to get trimmed this winter when everything is at a lull.  Things really grew last spring and need to "disappear".
NS had a contraption work down the main lines that could swing out abd cut branches and whole trees that were too close to the ROW.  It did quite well but there are still a few places near the ROW that could use a little adjustment.
