A Little CN to Brighten Your Day???
Author: WrongMain

There's nothing like fresh snow and bright sunshine to get me out of the house.  The dusting of snow that the weather geniuses promised us for Saturday in the South Suburbs of Chicago turned out to be about three or four inches of the stuff.  Sunday started out cloudy but by afternoon the skies were bright blue.  Unlike just about everyone else, I had not taken my first picture of the new year, so the timing seemed to be perfect.  We didn't have to wait long for a subject at Hart Street in Dyer, IN, as M340 came east with two shiny GEs for power.  According to two of my Flickr contacts who work for CN, the lead unit was less than two weeks old.  That clean black and red in the snow and blue skies made for a nice picture.  By the way, the newer CN power is wearing this white circular emblem, which I'm showing in the third shot.  Andy idea of what it represents?  Looks kind of neat.

Perhaps some First Nations symbology?

That's what I was kind of thinking, too.

Taken from a June 21, 2017 CN Press Release ...  Earlier this week in Montreal, as part of its celebration of National Aboriginal Day, CN unveiled a locomotive with a special paint scheme featuring a logo honouring the company's commitment to Aboriginal relations. CN's Aboriginal Affairs logo demonstrates CN's commitment to developing and maintaining respectful and sustainable relationships with all Aboriginal peoples across our network.

Sounds like this must be the emblem they're referring to.

Yes, CN runs through some IndianTerritories. They don't want a repeat of what happend some years ago when trains were rerouted though the States because the indians blockaded the RR ((in 1990)... But we fans in South Bend, Indiana, for example loved it--close to a 100 trains in 24 hours!

Nice capture of something that surely won't look like that for long!

I remember those times very well.  The Canadian Pacific was blockaded, too.  I was working the Dakota Desk in Milwaukee 3rd trick when all hell broke loose.  The CP brought down every train they could to Portal and ran them across the upper Midwest.  The sleepy west end of the Soo Line was changed forever.  We were dispatching with track warrants, no computers, short sidings, and limited crews.  But the traffic moved and the parent railroad learned they could run trains quicker and for less money.  The Soo Line eventually split the territories and installed CTC, so everything turned out for the better.  But if you had asked me that night way back then, my response would have been very different.
