Springtime on the Oasis: C&O GP7 on the Cincinnati Dinner Train
Author: K8CNW

For the past few weeks, CRC 902, the usual power for the Cincinnati Dinner Train, has been down for maintenance. CRC 5704, a former C&O GP7 has been filling in. The GP7 usually operates on the Lebanon, Mason, and Monroe Railroad but fills in occasionally in Cincinnati. I took the opportunity this evening to follow the Dinner Train train along Indiana & Ohio's Oasis Subdivision. 5704 is the oldest, continually operation gp class locomotive in the coutry. It was built in 1950, the same year as famed steam locomotive, N&W 611.

1) Spring is in full bloom at the International Friendship Park near downtown Cincinnati.
2) Passing MP 5 in Columbia Tusculum.
3) The conductor stops for a quick pose during the brief layover in Cincinnati.

Enjoy!

Excellent photos and captions.  Photo #1 is exceptionally scenic.
Got a cab ride in #5704 on 11/14/1992 when it was I&O #55.
Very good to see the unit still running.
Thanks for your interesting post.

Thanks for posting.  I really like this area....must have been something when PC and L&N had run throughs.   The whole Oasis, Red bank, Claire area mut have been something back in the day....Wish I had been knowledgeable enough to take some pics when I arrived in Cincy in 68 on the Cincy Limited.... darn lost opportunity....

Nice job Brian.  The engine looks great.  Ironically yesterday my daughter was shooting tulips in the Netherlands near Amsterdam.  Anyway I really like the job you did with that pic.

Thank you for all the kind words! I wasn't expecting to find the flowerbed at the Friendship Park but sometimes you get lucky.

Also, I actually work for the Cincinnati Railway and have shared a few images with our marketing department. You may see some of these on the website or future social media posts.

Thanks again!
