Q-PRNP with the tarped UP 1996 should run across Iowa in daylight. As of 0230 CDT, the train hasn't made it into Clinton,IA yet for a crew change. power is UP 4636, 5098, 3855, and 1996. Biz car Kennefick on the rear.

That is the SP hertiage unit we have all been waiting for. At least I hope it is.

Can someone with a camcorder take the time to trap the tarp on tape?

Here "it" is at Proviso a couple of days ago. The black pilot hints at what may be lurking underneath. A few of the handrails had a bit of red on them as well. I guess we'll see what awaits us soon. Thanks in advance, UP!

Based on that picture it appears that UP decided NOT to apply the famous "Black Widow" SP livery. :-( It appears UP 1996 will probably look like the earlier "Bloody Nose" livery units without the speed lettering.

I'd wager a "daylight" inspired paint scheme theme. Rumor has it the Daylight E unit is moving from it's home at the California Rail Museum to Roseville this week. Might make a good duo.

Same here, looks exactly like the Black Widow scheme pilot.

I don't know what the pilot looks like for the Black Widow, but solid black does not look like Daylight. Perhaps the front end is Black Widow with the 'Southern Pacific Lines' herald in the middle of the locomotive and then the scheme turns into Daylight for the rear half of the locomotive. We'll have to see, I can't wait till Saturday. Will be waiting anxiously for the first posted pictures up her in Portland. (Maybe 1996 will make her way north, and 4449 will be out to meet her. Perhaps UP1996 could be staged at Union Station the morning of September 16 when 4449 heads for Bend, Or.)

Silver trucks look like black Widow to me. This unit is the way it should have been.

sure hope this unit is painted in the right scheme / not like some of the other tasteless and non flattering paint jobs.
