Western Railroad Discussion > Weather Contest Photos from Soldier SummitDate: 10/30/04 12:35 Weather Contest Photos from Soldier Summit Author: sdrake Except for the last picture, all of these pictures were taken the day after Christmas 2003. I always feel good to get one picture that I like from a trip but the heavy snow on this day was really special although the only trains I saw were 2 BNSF trackage rights trains. If I had been setup in time I could have taken a picture of them passing at the station in Helper.
Anyway the first shot is taken at the west end of Soldier Summit with an amply powered eastbound. There are 7 C44-9s and one SD70MAC on the headend. This was the last picture of the day as the light was fading and the weather was not gettign any better.

The weather was not too bad on either side of the summit but the wind and snow at the summit coupled with the low temperature made it really mean out. Except for minor cropping and sizing this picture is exactly as it came from the camera (Kodak DC4800). The previous pictures were taken with a Nikon 5700.
