Tooele Valley- a great little shortline
Author: FT

When I lived in Utah ,first part of the 70's, one of the most interesting backwaters
was the little Tooele Valley. They existed to service a smelter on the bench area east
of Tooele. That's Too-ell-ah. Not sure if it was the polution or economics that caused
the smelter closure. The last year or so they operated it was to take out the mill as
carloads of scrap.

In this shot the train is passing through downtown Tooele. They always were front
coupled when running as they lead down hill and pushed uphill.

I sure would liked to have seen this old coach in service. I suppose it had set here

The sideframes on the TV's switcher are interesting, looks like early Flexicoils with FRICTION journals!!

TV 104 was formerly Pickering Lumber Corp. #104, built in 1959, with friction bearings on flexicoil trucks.

The wooden coach was used as tool shed until the line closed down in 1982, then along with the track, it was also dimantled and scraped. But ARCO, TV parent company did donate TV 03 & 04 cabooses to the city along with the Depot that sits in "New Town". I'll post whats left of the TV soon here on TO.

I moved out here in 1982 and never knew about this operation. I really like the station shot at Warner and also the shot crossing the street in Tooele.

That #4 sure looks like it's an ex Rio Grande 01100 class doublesheathed caboose.
