Fall Colors - Midwestern Color
Author: bnsfjth

While the color in the Midwestern US is not nearly as pronounced as the fall colors of the Eastern regions of the country, the results can be spectacular nevertheless.

Here, a UP stack train travels eastbound over the Kate Shelley High Bridge west of Boone, IA in 2004. The colorful Des Moines River Valley provides the backdrop for the scene.

The Boone and Scenic Valley 8419, a 2-8-2 built in China by the Datong Locomotive Works, leads one of the several excursion trains operated over the former Ft. Dodge, Des Moines and Southern tracks each weekend during the operating season. This shot was taken at Fraser, IA, a small town north of Boone in the Des Moines River valley.

The BSV 6540, an ex-VIA FP9A peeks its nose around the corner of the curve in the Fraser Siding while waiting for a meet with the northbound BSV 8419. The 6540 is used for the mid-day dessert and late afternoon dinner trains.

If you hadn't mentioned it I would have guessed Pennsylvania
as the location. Very nice!

Thanks!

When you get into the river valleys of Iowa, the scenery changes a great deal from the Iowa full of cornfields and prairie land that everyone envisions.
