Western Railroad Discussion > The Quaker and the MexicansDate: 04/19/14 21:04 The Quaker and the Mexicans Author: theironhorse As it happens to be, I am on vacation visiting family in south eastern Colorado. Last night I got word from SD45X that the Pennsy unit was coming up from Texas and due to be in Trinidad by the AM. So he asked that picked up Guernsey Girl and chase. Well, I got a text from him that the train was running earlier than anticipated. So.... I headed to La Junta to get Guernsey Girl and we highballed towards Branson, CO. When we arrived, I pulled up ODIS and as luck would have it, we missed it by 10 minutes or so!! So we made a run for Trinchera and of course, no train. It was the fourth train out of Trinidad, so it was decided we head to Barela siding. We were just south of Beshoar when we finally caught it.

I dropped off GG and hung out for a bit and caught the H KCKDEN at Manzanola from the overpass east of town. Of course, the cloud got me! SD45X noted that a grain train was ordered out of Coolidge, KS and was heading west to Las Animas with FOUR FXE locos. So.... I headed east to find it. I got a message from SD45X that it was at Lamar, CO. Yup, there they were. Four FXE units in the hole waiting for Amtrak. It was going to be there awhile. So I grabbed the last light shots and called it a day. ENJOY!

Arlen Wiederstein Date: 04/20/14 01:49 Re: The Quaker and the Mexicans Author: bnsfjordan Nice job. Really like the light on those Lamar shots. Interesting note about the grain train. Not only did it have all FXE power, the hoppers were all FXE as well. The train was pure Ferromex.
