More of the Cheyenne Frontier Days special
Author: SP8595

Had the morning off, so I decided to chase the Northbound Cheyenne Frontier Days Passenger train out of Denver up into Wyoming. It wasn't quite as special without the 844 but the E's still are pretty cool:}
The day was also very hazy, not your typical Colorado weather and very much reminded me of the "June Gloom" that is prevalent down in So. Cal!

1)Leaving the Denver skyline behind and passing through the refineries, UP 951 is about ready to cross BNSF's Brush Sub. at Sand Creek.

2)Heading around the curve just North of Platteville, the entire train is seen as it races Auto traffic on parallel Highway 85.

3)Heading up a slight grade at Evans.

Unfortunately once the train departed Greeley, it was back-lit for most of the rest of the journey towards Wyoming.

The back-lit trio!

4)High balling through Ault.

5)From the overpass just North of Nunn.

6)Across the state line in Wyoming approaching Speer Jct. The Centennial had died coming up the hill and the pair of individuals on the side of the engine had already restarted it by the time that it passed me.

To the group chasing it in the afternoon, Have Fun:}

Nice photos of a great-looking train!
Wonder why the Centennial shut down?
She should have been able to handle the
whole train alone -- right? Bet the Es
sounded greaet working hard!

Nice set of shots there SP. Thanks for posting. The one just north of Evans looks familiar to me. Is it behind the truck stop thereabouts? Ben

Can't they even run diesels without a set of stupid-looking flags
on the engines?

Outstanding series of shots John! That train looks incredible. Nothing against UP steam but that lash up is awesome in my opinion. Thanks for sharing.

I agree! What's with all the flags and the "look at me" factor?

Love it! Absolutely fantastic coverage. How was US-85 today? Without any steam, did that help to thin out the crowd? Or did the E's and 6936 still bring everyone out?

Crowd - what crowds?!? Driving along Highway 85 Southbound the Hwy. was wide open. Only one pacer in the left-hand lane doing video.

Great shots...no June gloom around here lately but no E's either (or Centennial for that matter).
