BNSF Eastbound from Colfax??
Author: chips7335

I consider this a rare occurrence, or am I just wrong. I don't ever recall a BNSF crossing the Sierra's from Roseville toward Reno on the UP track. I was totally surprised today to see this orange color approaching my location.

Nice picture; the muted lighting makes it look almost like a watercolor.

The foothills are SO beautiful. So bucolic, a sort of idyllic American quasi-suburban pastoral area. My cousins live in Meadow Vista and I go out there a couple of times per year, I go see Dino the Dinosaur (respond to this if you know of Dino the Dinosaur) and bike around the village-like setting-SO beautiful...

Thank you all for your responses. I was not aware that BNSF used this section at all. Live and learn. Thanks also for comments on the photo. It was a rainy day so colors were muted. It took some work to bring them out.

It runs 4 per week, usually SuMoWeFr past Roseville. QSTPVJ while on UP, HSTOPVO1 to BNSF, Stockton-Provo. It's 3 per week in the other direction, often longer, sometimes with DPU.

Perfect vantage point and I can totally feel the mountain dampness in this shot very nicely done

I don't recall that fence on the engineers side. How new is that?

The city and UP put that fence up late last year I don't remember exact date, The locals knocked a hole in it shortly after installation. UP has been installing fencing in a lot of towns, most of them have holes in them within a short time after they are put up.

Great picture. Yes it does look like a painting. This train has been running since the UP-SP merger.

Just to add on here, the BNSF also routes a few trackage rights trains via Portola and the FRC as well. The QRBPVJ/QPVRBJ (UP symbols) trains route that way, mainly due to the fact that those trains usually have work at the Herlong Army Depot en route. QRBPVJs run more often than the wbs.

UP crews man the BNSF trains (either routing) between Roseville and Roper Yd at SLC, where the Utah RR crews take the trains to Provo.

I too thought it was a model railroad at first.
