UP Passenger Special through Tehachapi today

UP Passenger Special, PRVWD2-03, passed through the Tehachapi Pass today.

Power was UP 8142 and UP 8128.

Consist was 19 cars:

..Sunshine Special (Coach)
..Katy Flyer (Coach)
..Columbine (Dome Coach)
..City of Portland (Dome Diner)
..Power car 208
..Stanford (Business, ex SP car)
..Sunset (Business, ex SP car)
..Kenefick (Business)
..Lake Forest (Deluxe Sleeper)
..Columbia River (Crew Car/Crew Sleeper)
..Baggage car 5779
..Portola (Deluxe Sleeper)
..Green River (Deluxe Sleeper)
..Missouri River Eagle (Dome Diner)
..City of Los Angeles (Diner)
..Idaho (Inspection)

The 3 photos below were taken as the train traveled through Marcel (MP 354, 7 miles north of Tehachapi) at 2:05 pm

That last shot is real nice. Overcast days sometimes make for better photos. In this case the soft light really is a bonus.

Destination is W. Thenard. That is a yard/junction very close to the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. You can find it on Google Maps.

For those like myself that wonder what passenger rail service by the Class 1's would look like today if they were still running them, this is most likely what we would see in photos. Great shots by the way!
