Some Florida East Coast photos
Author: erie833

I made a trip to Florida to see family back at the end of February. I didn't do much train stuff while there but did allow time to hit some FEC spots as I worked my way home. My first encounter with the new FEC GE's was catching train #101 as it departed Bowden (Jacksonville) at the popular spot of Sunbeam Rd not long after I entered the sunshine state on the way down. A clean 813 lead the pair of sharp looking units. A couple weeks later found me in Stuart, a first time visit to that interesting location. Probably my fav FEC shot of the bunch was train #109 with a pair of clean "blues" as seen from the Rt 1 bridge. Earlier that morning I elected to photograph this southbound at River level.

Great photos!  Retirement in 16 months will allow me to get down that way for the first time.

Obviously less than ideal lighting so elected to make an overall scene shot with the Rt 1 bridge and some people.

Morning northbound at Stuart.

Train #101 at Bunnell.

Evening photo of the bridges at Stuart. The old pilings in the water at one time supported the FEC freight dock there. FEC draw is up.

Tanks.

Train #101 departing Bowden at Sunbeam Rd.

I'll close with this evening shot of the FEC Stuart draw. All in all a fun railroad to fan....and thanks FEC for the timely info!

Thanks for all the pictures. Looks like a nice visit.

The city of Stuart does a nice job in managing the lighting downtown. The lights on the underside of the US 1 bridge are an example. Another example is the great sailfish statue in the middle of the traffic circle just west of the railroad. I'd like to get that into an evening train shot, but the timing etc hasn't worked out.

Very nice Roger. Ironically, if often seem to get sun at St Augustine, and fog at Stuart!

I considered that myself, but seeing it was my first visit there I went for the bridge area photos.

The morning northbound at Stuart is #210, and the first morning southbound there is usually #123 unless it's really early (before sunrise) or #121 is late. The back-to-back power is usually indicative of the Ft Lauderdale train (#123/#224), too.

Thanks T-patch for the info. I didn't use a scanner much in Stuart, just waited until the draw lowered. I did have movement info from FEC though which helped a lot. You can bet I'll be stopping in Stuart again next year!

Roger,
nice series of photos  with some cool angles. I especially like the overhead with the two blue GP40's.
