Montana Special Olympics train
Author: fbe

Today MRL used their business train to haul the torch for the 2015 Montana Special Olympics into Missoula to finish it's journey across the state.  MRL 500 got the honors and first staged the train to Bonner with a reverse movement out of Missoula. The first photo shows the Silver Cloud in the lead with the MRL 500 just clear of the Deer Creek crossing.  Next we have the staging move going away crossing the Clark Fork River over Bridge 114.1.  After guests were loaded in Bonner the final photo is of the train coming into Missoula for welcoming ceremonies including a brass band.

The Special Olympics competitions started today and will continue through next week.

A great project. A beautiful train. Love the MP "Eagle" inspired paint scheme on the passenger cars.

There were two E units. The first was purchased by MRL but once work commenced at Livingston it was found to be heavily rusted in the carbody and frame so it was scrapped out. The E on display at Deer Lodge was purchased privately by a group of individuals for display. Though it was a working loco there were no plans to restore it to service.

Did F45s 390 and 391 go to scrap?  How long ago?

The 390 was purchased in 2014, by a private party and is currently stored at Western Rail near Airway Heights, WA.

The 391 was sold in 2007 and moved to Chicago Heights, IL the same year. Presumably, it got scrapped.
