I've always wondered what the historical significance is of having one of those units in Mexico City. It's like having a GG-1 at the Orange Empire Railroad Museum in Perris, CA Date: 05/25/15 02:38 Re: MOTX (UP) 6944 Status Question Author: MrMRL CA_Sou_MA_Agent Wrote:

What a difference between before & after.
John Date: 05/25/15 04:13 Re: MOTX (UP) 6944 Status Question Author: apollo17 Would it be possible to start it up?
Date: 05/25/15 06:20 Re: MOTX (UP) 6944 Status Question Author: K8CNW From what I've read the motors are still there but it's missing power assemblies and other components so no, it won't run. It was only restored cosmetically though this includes the cab. Looks really good!

Well, the numbers (cab-side and number boards) are all a bit off (size and/or "font") but are pretty close, at least better than I'd expected for a non-UP shop product. The shades of gray and yellow look very good in the photos, but the aluminum color looks a bit flat vs. what UP applied back in the day. But overall I'll give it a B+ / A- as a re-paint job, generally a nice piece of work - not forgetting that, without a doubt, it looks much better than it did in the "before" shots! Very glad to see it's being properly cared-for. Take care, Mark Date: 05/25/15 14:04 Re: MOTX (UP) 6944 Status Question Author: UPTRAIN Those "Altoona font" numbers really aren't that far off from the generic gothic stencil that UP was using late in the game. Here's the way it looked after its last UP-applied paint job shortly before donation. As somebody who has looked at it in the sad condition posted above for the past 15 years, I think I can "live" with the numbers.

I'm just glad it still runs. I hope St. Louis will be a better steward of this EMD going forward. Good job, NS!

Looks very nice - great work by Altoona paint folks. Here's two comparison photos with the 6938 that was repainted at North Little Rock (Jenks shop). Kodachromes by Rathole Nov 12, 1989.

Date: 05/26/15 09:24 Re: MOTX (UP) 6944 Status Question Author: JUTower Just noticed that the NS repaint has "Union Pacific Railroad" in the herald, but most places I've seen it it's simply "Union Pacific".
