Amtrak, Sounder Once More Affected by PNW Adverse Weather

For the eleventh time in 2006, Amtrak and Sounder service south of Seattle, Washington is curtailed due to adverse weather conditions.

With much wetter than normal weather plaguing the Pacific Northwest, BNSF Railway and Union Pacific Railroad have had to contend with high water, mudslides and harsh winds. On Monday, high water and mudslides were once again impeding BNSF Railway's route between Seattle and Portland, blocking all freight and passenger rail service between the cities.

Amtrak Cascades service between Seattle and Portland was canceled through Monday evening. Service was also expected to be disrupted through Monday afternoon between Seattle and Vancouver, British Columbia.

Amtrak said that service to Los Angeles and Chicago would originate in Portland, Oregon and Everett, Washington.
