Amtrak NEC Disrupted by Large Brush Fire in NJ

Amtrak and New Jersey Transit experienced lengthy delays on Friday evening after a mile-wide brush fire swept across the Northeast Corridor in northern New Jersey.

Reported in the Meadowlands area of New Jersey, the fire quickly overspread trackside vegetation and made visibility limited. Several trains rolled through the fires before the railroads were able to shut down service. When shut down, all Amtrak and NJ Transit Northeast Corridor service had been suspended and the NJ Transit's North Jersey Coast Line service was also affected between 20:00 and 21:00 EST.

The brush fire was reportedly extinguished and service operating on or close to schedule before midnight.
