PAL Orders 29 Loco Digital Video Recording Systems

Advanced Video Technologies L.L.C. (AVT) recently received an order from the Paducah & Louisville Railway Inc. (PAL) to equip 29 of the 265-mile regional's locomotives with a Locomotive Digital Video Recording System.

Designed to receive digital recording data from four cameras and one audio input, the system can record date, time, engine number, location, heading, speed, forward/neutral/reverse setting, horn, bell, brake and emergency brake activity.

"The primary purpose for the technology is to help the railroad reduce liability payout connected to grade crossing accidents," says Craig Simmons, president of AVT, which has marketed the system to the railroad industry for about two-and-a-half years. "The use of the video to prove the railroad was in compliance with speed and horn restrictions, and motorists were ignoring traffic laws and running into the train has been very powerful."

The PAL order brings to 80 the total number of systems AVT has sold to railroads.
