B&P Line in Chicora, PA Severed by Burnt Trestle

A Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad train may have sparked a large brush fire that also consumed a century-old trestle in Chicora, Pennsylvania on Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters were summoned to an out-of-control brush fire just before 13:00 EST near Route 68 and along the B&P right-of-way in Chicora. Witnesses told of a B&P train passing the location some fifteen minutes before the fire was reported.

Smoke could be seen for miles as the railroad trestle burned. According to officials, some firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation.

Officials for Buffalo & Pittsburgh don't how long it could take to repair the trestle, or whether the structure will need to be rebuilt. Engineers will be at the scene on Thursday to inspect the damage and put together an estimate.
