It almost makes a grown man cry and to think the pride ATSF took in their stock. Makes me want to shake a few bodies at BNSF, no pride anymore just money driven by accountants.

My vote is for the 516, I saw it a last spring....what a sad looking paint job. Even orange paint is better than that....

I'll have to go with the 850 also. Here is a picture of the other side of it taken at Tehachapi Loop on August 7, 2005.

I think a Kindergartener could have put the yellow stripe on better than this!!!!!!!

What type of an engine is this 569 Warbonnet. It has 2 axle trucks with a Wide Cab car body? I don't recall seeing this arrangement before.

That would be a B40-8W.

General Electric B40-8W. Unique to AT&SF, as were the Santa Fe's GP60M's, a widenose version of the GP60.

Okay, now this is getting scary. we posted the B40-8W answer at the same time, and here I come back to mention that it was similar to a GP60M and you have done it already. If I didn't know any better I would think you were sitting over my shoulder...

Also unique to Santa Fe were the GP60B cabless locos numbered 325-347. The GP60M's are numbered 100-162 and the B40-8W's (DASH-8-40BW is GE's model designation) are numbered 500-582. They sure looked beautiful when new. NOTHING beats a fresh, clean warbonnet, red and silver or blue and yellow! It is a shame that BNSF didnt keep the bonnet. I believe that I read about some recently repainted warbonnets in this post earlier this year and sincerely hope BNSF management (Rose) has a change of heart.

Here's a last minute entry. NS's Van Dorn Yard in Alexandria, VA. Don't get too many Warbonnets there...
