Western Railroad Discussion > Status of Tehachapi this weekend 2/11/06Date: 02/08/06 19:34 Status of Tehachapi this weekend 2/11/06 Author: busdriver Hi all,
I'm planning on heading to the Tehachapi area this weekend, and I was wondering if it will be operating normally or if it will be a MOW performance. I'm hoping it will be busy and open. Thanks for any info. Bryce Date: 02/08/06 20:35 Re: Status of Tehachapi this weekend 2/11/06 Author: MIK Don't know about this coming weekend, but I was there last Friday. Lots of track workers were gathering in Caliente and Bealville. Traffic was normal from sunrise to around 10AM, and then all of a sudden things just came to a halt. I saw brand new replacement rails around tunnel-1.

Jeffro Date: 02/08/06 21:23 Re: Status of Tehachapi this weekend 2/11/06 Author: busdriver There is a Domingo's in Tehachapi (owned by the brother of the one in Boron) :-)

Las Palmas, next to the Shell station at the blinking light in the center of town, is pretty good, with large entrees and a lot of cheese. I looks like a dive, but isn't although it is very informal. A window seat might give a view of the trains at the crossing, but I haven't sat in those seats.

They did tunnel 1 the other day using snap track and they had a window. They are building the track for tunnel 2 and 3 at the tunnels. There are still a lot of window that kept coming up.

I haven't been there in a few months but Domingo's in Tehachapi or Boron is always something I look forward to. Date: 02/09/06 06:06 Yea, what's up at Domingo's in Tehachapi??? Author: bradleymckay Sounds disturbing...
Customers fogetting to flush the toilets or something? AM Date: 02/09/06 20:31 Re: Yea, what's up at Domingo's in Tehachapi??? Author: busdriver Thanks for the info on the other Mexican food option. May have to try them out and see trains at the same time. Also, thanks for the info on the chance of work. Sounds like things still run at night, so hopefully it will be busy then.

NEver ate there myself, but if the FDA shows up, I bet it'll shut down because of that! Anyway not surprising of the line being quiet for hours on end, that's actually typical of Tehachapi. I was there last year and hung around tunnel 2 and caught 2 westbounds, got too bored and left, caught 2 more headed for the loop, but once I reached Cable on HWY 58 the answer was on Main No. 2 with MOW equipment located there! I think it's timing now on getting there when things aren't so quiet!
