Western Railroad Discussion > Southern Pacific: Service with a Star!Date: 07/27/06 20:21 Southern Pacific: Service with a Star! Author: ColoradoRailfan Hello-
The third unit on the MNYRO-27 today was UP 8810 (ex-SP 8271). It was nice seeing a tunnel motor running on the Moffat again! I haven't seen one out there since a KCS T-2 back on April 18: http://www.drgw.ws/gallery/photo.asp?id=100700 Looked like the T-2 was working hard today (along with two SD70M's up front). It looks as though somebody may have intentionally painted over the "thern" in "Southern", leaving "Sou Pacific" on the long hood. However, I personally liked the star that had been added to dot the first i in Pacific. There has been a work window on the Moffat Tunnel Sub (in central/western Colorado) M-Th the last two weeks between Tolland and Tabernash. The main track has been out of service between those limits between 8am and 5pm and I believe that, over the next several weeks, the work crew will continue to make their west toward Gore. In the attached image, the MNYRO with UP 8810 passes the grade crossing at Blue Mountain. For a few more images from the day and earlier in the week: http://www.drgw.ws/gallery/gallery.asp?add=20060727 Kevin Morgan Arvada, CO http://www.drgw.ws/ Date: 07/27/06 21:06 Re: Southern Pacific: Service with a Star! Author: CLM Somebody somewhere has been painting those stars on the I's in pacific on both UP and SP locomotives for a couple of years now. Ive seen it several times - and Ive gotten a few pics of them too. Im at work right now - cant upload any examples.
Craig Date: 07/28/06 09:06 Re: Southern Pacific: Service with a Star! Author: kwo The UP 8810 went south on the Greeley Sub on Saturday, meeting the steam engine at Nunn. We got stopped by a couple lights, so we got the southbound leaving the siding. Fourth unit, no star on this side. :(
