What does CBA stand for exactly
Author: hobojaks

I know it has something to do with unions, and an agreement with the company.

Does it stand for Collective Bargaining Agreement?

What are some of the basic characteristics of these agreements?

CBA's are talked about in this post:

It tells about how UP needs to hire lots of people, unfortunately
even thought I went out and got an AA degree in railroad technology
they still will not hire me. I got rejected at the last hiring
session I went to.

Yes.

As you'll recall, several people told you that going to Choo Choo U would not be of benefit to you.

Hi!

Try a short line. They seem to be more laid back and will "train" a fresh recruit. The cool thing is that you will come on as a conductor and then move quickly to be an engineer (they switch back and forth, every couple of weeks). If you show up with an engineer's card, qualified to run on either BNSF or UP tracks (via trackage rights), it will mean a lot more.

You might try a hitch in the military. UP says they are going after those with a military background. You could perhaps sign-up as railroader in the Army for 4 years and use your experience to hire-on at a later date with a RR. You will earn a better education about life than the AA Degree could ever provide!

When your application to hire on is rejected, does the railroad give you any feedback as to why?

I know a headhunter told a recent rejectee in Oakland that they were passing on him because of his previous felony conviction.

Only so that you will be conditioned to following orders unquestioningly.

Rich.......you know darn well the U.P. does not have HEAD HUNTERS. Just ask 'em.

A few months back I saw ads in the weekly Army/Navy Times news papers from BNSF and UP.

I guess I have to bitterly admit that they were quite correct,
so now my plan is to continue with school and get a four year
degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology.

Maybe they they can hire me to be a manager!

But also this might open up possibilities in several different
industries.

Well, maybe all is not lost. How do you feel about opening, say, a Meth lab? The headhunter told the guy they turned down for felony drug convictions that he could reapply in one year.

And be on call 30 hours a day, 10 days a week, listening to a bunch of termigant hihger ups screaming at you.

I wonder what the railroads are looking for specifically when they hire someone? Seems someone who went to a Choo Choo U would have a better advantage over someone who didn't.

Meth lab is not really my style. They are going to
let me reapply in just 6 months. Hopefully I can get
into some type of internship and get some work experiance
by then.

Got in trouble for typing on this group with my last
internship by the way. Seems they were thinking it might
be a violation of rule 1.27.

On the other hand, that four year degree just keeps
getting closer and closer to a reality.

I see.

Well, the Nut Tree Railroad has reopened. Try there.
