Western Railroad Discussion > Full moon over Grass Lake SummitDate: 03/04/07 21:35 Full moon over Grass Lake Summit Author: graybeard1942 [no, this is not that 'other' full moon]
I just got back from three days of rail photography on the Union Pacific Black Butte Subdivision. Lots of snow, everywhere, but I had a good day of sunshine on Saturday. Came back with about 400 new images to edit. I found this one early on. I had no idea that the moon was up that early (6 p.m.) and that it was in the image. The location is about one mile east of the Grass Lake siding and the elevation was about 5,100 feet. Those white spots are snowflakes. More to come...thanks for watching Date: 03/04/07 22:00 Re: Full moon over Grass Lake Summit Author: zwspnby9 Well Well,
Such extraordinary photography here! I love it. Already you set a high standard for your other photos. Grass Lake eh. Nice spot. My dad and I stopped at the rest area there last September to sleep for the night (this was in a truck sleeper) and we heard seven trains blare their horns. And of course we were truckin' and not railfanning. But we heard em anyways. Same time, same area, next day... I don't want to start a pissing contest here, but... I just brought up the original to 300 percent and found two snowflakes between the lens and the "moon". The proportions do not support the contention that I found a super snowflake. If anyone would like the original, I'll send it by email. I didn't really realize that was why the coloring was so red. When you spend three days living in your truck, you don't keep up with the news. This was taken a few minutes later. The Grass Lake siding is to the far right of the photo; the tracks run along the berm that is barely visible. I was hoping for a southbound track, but, alas....
