Western Railroad Discussion > NRE 3GS21C PhotosDate: 09/18/07 20:50 NRE 3GS21C Photos Author: Nova55 NRE posted a photo of the new 6 axle genset..kinda cool looking...But what trucks are those? Looks like exports or Dofascos..
They also have a new 1GS21B in the works that looks like an SW1000 http://www.nationalrailway.com/nviro.asp Date: 09/18/07 23:17 Re: NRE 3GS21C Photos Author: TopcoatSmith DoFaSCos or the same kind MK used under the 5000s?
TCS - slot-nosed uglies Date: 09/18/07 23:26 Re: NRE 3GS21C Photos Author: BothanSpy Those are not dofascos, they are far far too short of wheelbase, even for them.
Might be some kinda export truck, NRE seems to have handled alot of export units recently so its possible it might be off of one of them. If they are dofascos (again, they are too short and dont look right) NRE has several HR616's in storage that they could get them from. I agree. Click on the BNSF 1221 which takes you to a data page for the 3GS-21B. It's the same photo as the one for the 3GS-21C only the latter is obviously photosopped when compared to the former. NRE has repatriated a bunch of EMD export locomotives at their Mt. Vernon, IL shops. It would not surprise me if some of the three axle tracks off these were salvaged for use on these new locomotives. Date: 09/19/07 08:56 Re: NRE 3GS21C Photos Author: BothanSpy kevink Wrote:

They are indeed photoshoped zoom really close into rear truck and you still see parts of the leaf spring and its related assemblys. Date: 09/20/07 04:25 Re: NRE 3GS21C Photos Author: redneckrailfan Sofar NRE has not outshopped a 6 axle 3GS21C. They have 2GS14B #2007 and 3GS21B's #2008 and 2009. It was a photo of the #2009 which was Photoshopped to look like it had 3 axle trucks.
The diagram of the 3GS21B on the NRE website shows the unit with what appear to be 3 axle Dofasco trucks like those used on MLW M630's and M636's, BBD HR616's, GE C40-8M's and MK MK5000C's. It also lists the unit as having a 2900 gallon fuel tank. The 3GS21C is to be built on a frame which is 65'8", the same as the SD38/39/40/45 type locos, so it is very possible that Flexicoil C trucks could be used on these units. Newer HT-C trucks could be used but either a smaller fuel tank would have to be used or the box which is located in front of the tank would have to be relocated due to the longer wheelbase of the HT-C truck versus the older Flexicoil truck.
