SP 1996-UP 7683-MP 1982 over Sherman Hill
Author: NH2006

With the generous help of High Green Graphics and Ryan
of heritagelocomotives group, I was finally able to
double the number of UP Heritage engines I've seen in
person (to 4, sadly enough) but we got them in
exquisite light over Sherman Hill after a trace of
snow fell the night before.

great stuff!!! What is the mainline speed for this Z train out there in the plains? I take it the trackspeed does slow down for those rare curves right?

I think what you see is a power line to the firestation, the road at Granite is much lower that the rails...

Well even with the curves and grades over Sherman, these trains FLY over it....I was doing 75mph+ on I80 and had a hard time getting ahead of it....

Thaz what I thought - so CONGRATS on being able to get ahead and shoot this bad boy a few times. It ain't easy and is pretty much impossible to do legally...

It's not impossible as the speed limit on I80 is 75mph and the WY State Troopers will (generally-cross your fingers) ignore you if are only 3mph over...but I missed the shot at Buford because he was flying ahead of me by the time I got up from Tie Siding....

Nice set of shots there! If it makes you feel any better, the only Heritage unit I have "action" shots of is 1989. Sure, I got all six in Salt Lake, but they were sittin' still! One of these days I'll get up to Cheyenne when a few are making a run across the Overland.

Thanks for posting.

Very nice stuff! Even though we missed it, I'm glad we did what we did the night before...!

I seriously crawled into bed after 1:05am, exhausted.
