Lightning & Thunder at Noon today in Dunsmuir

Some big lightning hit town at noon today. Saw a Hi railer out on the railcam at 1:11PM. Besides a direct strike, does the railroad make checks after big strikes in a particular area even if no problems are noted?

Possibly the track inspector making a normal run. Or checking for mud slides and debris after the storm if his boss said go. Hard to say which.

Most signal cases have lightning arrestors in them, If you take a hit they will protect the hardware. But you will usually have an signal outage until they are replaced.

There were typical Monday morning Maintainance windows going out this morning when I left, methinks lightning strikes would be under the CDF realm. The area above Cantara and below Mott is in the open, would think that area and tall bridges (SP east of Hotlum) would be the place to look for burning bushes and rolling rocks. Would be curious how the UP's ATCS antennas fare in such storms.
