Saw these guys today at Burbank on my lunch break. I don't understand the big back-up move.
Can't they just run the power around the train at Burbank?
Seems to me it'd be easier than backing all the way to Gemco.
Thanks for the pix! Wish I could've been out shooting today too -- despite the gloomy weather.

What is the exact location of pict 1? Just east of Sierra Hwy in Canyon Country? Those look suspiciously like my old aptartments. My how things have changed if that is the location.

It would take as long or longer to R/A their train which is a waste of time. Plus more work envolved as the crew would have to tie the train down and then R/A it and then untie and make a set and release.

I used to work this job for 4 years straight. When we arrived either off of the coast line in the morning to begin the trip up the Saugus Line were ready to go westward (now northward). With the tight windows of the east and westbound Metrolinks it was necessary to make maximum authorized speed. Also upon arrival at Burbank Jct. from the Saugus line the local is ready to make the trek up the coast line and upon arrival at Gemco the pull cars were on the right end of the engine to shove into the outbound track.

Pic was shot at Canyon Park Blvd. (CP Honby) standing near the 'b' case for the crossing.

The second shot with that bulkhead behind the caboose makes it look like a UP CA9 crummy.
