I posted photos a few days ago of this floodgate being installed. The next two photos are taken from the floodgate.
The levee looks like it is doing fine, but water is slowly rising in the ditches inside. But I've been down there a few times in the past few days (the raspberries are ripe right now) and it appears they aren't running the pumphouse. Maybe the floods of '73 or '74 is where they learned it. Likely it was from whenever electronics got complex enough to be expensive. Some of us know you just try to stay out of the way of a big river instead of pretending you can control it.
