It is amazing the amount of money those two (Christo and Jeanne-Claude) get donors to pony up for something that only lasts a couple of weeks or so. Their installation artworks are typically huge but are completely gone a month after they start setting them up. Their umbrellas on Tejon Pass in 1991 were up and gone before many people knew they were there. I'd like to see this thing first hand when it is in place. If nothing else, it will be amazing - not rational, just amazing.

Here's a link to their web site. If you have not seen their stuff before you may have to redefine your definition of "monumental art" after seeing it.

The umbrellas on Tejon in '91 were absolutely astounding!! We drove through the area and also had the good fortune to have a helicopter tour above them. Incredible. Many people, including us, thought the whole idea was stupid---------until we actually saw them.
