Western Railroad Discussion > BNSF SD-40-2R 1573?Date: 11/27/08 21:27 BNSF SD-40-2R 1573? Author: Schmittb93 Saw this unit at Northtown today in fresh paint. When did they start numbering these units in the 1500's.
This does not match the previous 4 40-2r's. I did not see anything here about new renumbering plans from BNSF. anybody else have more info? Thanks Date: 11/27/08 21:36 Re: BNSF SD-40-2R 1573? Author: WR-44 You might do a TO search on this subject. It seems to me there was another posting on this several weeks back and perhaps even a couple months ago. If I remember correctly, these SD40-2R's in the 1500 series are RCL type locomotives.

Santa Fe SD45-2s that the BNSF has been rebuilding this summer & fall to SD40-2 specs (internally) and repainting in the black & orange wedge scheme, are being renumbered from their 7950-7957 series to 1500 series to make room for the next batch of H3 ES44DCs coming online next year. Mr. MRL Date: 11/27/08 21:41 Re: BNSF SD-40-2R 1573? Author: WR-44 Ok, I was wrong on that... but weren't some being rebuilt into RCL's?

BN SD40-2s that have been derated from 3000 to 2300 hp, repainted with the black & orange wedge scheme, and converted into dedicated RCL units. I think the numbers for those converted so far are BNSF 1854, 1859 & 1860. Mr. MRL Date: 11/28/08 07:13 Re: BNSF SD-40-2R 1573? Author: midwest MrMRL Wrote:

We're getting closer to the right answer here...(grin) These are not being moved to make way for new GEs, rather its just part of a renumbering plan that BNSF is working on. The new GEs in 2009 will be in the low 7000s (7073-7394). Midwest Date: 11/28/08 12:08 Re: BNSF SD-40-2R 1573? Author: CCMF Above post should refer to BNSF 7950-7956 (not 7957). The eighth unit was outshopped as BNSF 1572.
The first six seem to be aimed at re# BNSF 1565-1571 (7956 is already the 1571). Date: 11/28/08 12:28 Re: BNSF SD-40-2R 1573? Author: SantaFeRuss Here are some photos of SD40-2 #1854 I shot on 23 August 2008 near Klondike, Califonia headed west. This is one of those renumbered SD40-2's now assigned to yard service.

Does BNSF have that many units on order for 09 with the current down turn in traffic and economic situation? Or will these units be delivered in batches over time? Date: 11/28/08 14:06 Re: BNSF SD-40-2R 1573? Author: mojaveflyer This SD40-2 has been in Denver for several months and has RCL equipment installed on it. Is this one of the derated units or just a SD40-2 that is set up as a switcher? Pulling new DMU cars from Denver Union Station on Aug 30, 2008.
