Old CN unit in BNSF power consist
Author: JoCoLB

I couldn't resist grabbing a picture of a BNSF manifest freight in Olathe, KS, today when I observed the train approaching with an older model Canadian National engine unit in the locomotive consist.

Anyone have the full pedigree and specs of the pictured CN engine unit? Is this model still being manufactured?

This would be a SD75I. The unit is a 4300 horsepower locomotive with an isolated cab. She is an uprated version of the SD70M that Santa Fe and Canadian National purchased. This unit is no longer manufactured, having been replaced in the catalogue by the SD70M-2 (the D.C. sister to the A.C. SD70ACE).

The CN and Santa Fe didn't buy SD70M's, they bought SD75M's. The only difference with this one is the isolated cab.

Go here and look up the number, which is in big white numbers on the side of the cab: http://www.thedieselshop.us/CN.HTML

You'll see that it is an EMD SD75I, type aformentioned model into wikipedia to find: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMD_SD75I

Oh the web, what a powerful resource...if only we knew how to utilize it.

One small correction here. CN picked up 26 SD70I's in 1995 (5600-5625) before moving to SD75Is in 1996.
