Cajon Snow!!!
Author: LVFoamer

I had to go to So Cal tonight.. For those that don't know I live in Vegas... It was like a blizzard from Victorville to about Blue Cut. I went up to Summit for a few Min's and at 6:30PM there was 8in of snow on the ground and there was no end in sight. BTW for everyone in Vegas my wife said in Summerlin where we live there is snow falling but not sticking... Still my kids are out trying to play in it... I will be up at first light with the new 7D and the trusty 70-200IS I just hope the pass is open... Lucky I got a new Hybrid 1/2 Chevy truck now.. No more offroading the BMW...

Best of luck... James

According to the Caltrans website, there are no delays on I15 through the pass and the live camera feeds look clear. Hwy 58 from Mojave through Tehachapi is currently closed!

From a old snow shooter, you will need 200# of something in the bed or it will want to fly out from under you.

Or 200# of Kat litter, Coors, or similar in the back of the BMW, and, except for maybe 2" of ground clearance, you won't need the extra 3000# of steel, rubber, and plastic.

Or drive a Subaru. No extra ballast needed for snow. :-)

Looking at the Caltrans web cams along Cajon Pass, It appears the only snow that stuck is up around the freeway pass level. Nowhere near a foot on the ground even up at the 4200 I-15 pass level... :(

1. View of I-15 just north of the junction with Hwy 138.

2. View from halfway up the Cajon Grade. (between Hwy 138 and the summit)

3. View from the truck parking area at Cajon Summit. (little snow hiding in the shadows)

Mr. MRL - the winter weather is still young though...

The more alcohol you consume, the more snow you see!

Seeing snow is not presently a problem in Sioux City, IA.

You can always shovel some snow into the bed of the truck unless you have a cover over it. When it warms up, it melts. You can empty it a bit quicker by leaving the tailgate down and make a jackrabbit start at a stop light or stop sign. The person behind you won't appreciate that but they'll get over it. You didn't say anything about 4W-drive. I just tell people that 4W-drive just means you'll get stuck further off the road than people with standard 2W drive. I have 4W-drive but I never get myself into a bad situation.

Enjoy your truck.

4wd just means you get twice as stuck!
