Western Railroad Discussion > Kansas City Southern & Pacific?Date: 01/24/10 16:39 Kansas City Southern & Pacific? Author: cp1400 With the Winter Olymic Games just days away railroad officials are scrambling to be seen at the party. On Jan 23 CP train 41B with eight KCS business cars traversed the Rocky Mountains of Western Canada. It appeared to be a deadhed move as Mike Havery and friends were not on board. One discussion between passing train crews revealed the cook was the only passenger. The head end crew are still waiting for their steaks.
Once placed in Vancouver this train will serve as a base for KCS officials to entertain and sleep. Downtown hotels were booked long ago for high prices so this is one way railroad officials can guarantee a place to stay. Word is UP and BNSF will be sending train sets as well. If anyone sees or hears of more business train moves to Vancouver make sure you post your sightings. CP's Royal Canadian Pacific is scheduled to participate in the Olympic Torch Relay between Revelstoke and Craigellachie (location of CPR's last spike) on Wed Jan 27. Once completed these duties the RCP will be at the party in Vancouver. 1. Departing Field BC. 2. Business car Baton Rouge meets Mount Stephen. 3. Ottertail River just west of Field. cp1400 Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 01/24/10 16:50 by cp1400. Date: 01/24/10 16:42 Re: Kansas City Southern & Pacific? Author: cp1400 4. A three train meet at Leancoil.
5. Dropping down into the Kicking Horse River Canyon between Leancoil and Palliser. 6. At Glenogle deep in the Kicking Horse Canyon. cp1400 Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/24/10 16:56 by cp1400. Date: 01/24/10 16:47 Re: Kansas City Southern & Pacific? Author: cp1400 7. Heading into the fading light (and finally scooping that slow grain train) at Golden.
8. Waiting on another eastbound at Donald. 9. With only faint light over the Selkirk Mountains they head up the Connaught Track at Fraine to scoop another slower train struggling up the MacDonald Track to Rogers Pass. From here it was all dark the rest of the way across British Columbia with an 08:15 arrival in CP's Coquitlam yard in the Vancouver area. That last shot makes it look a bit like a 57 Chevy doesn't it? Member bcr4601 posted this shot of train 41B at Pitt River outside Coquitlam Yard at sun up on Jan 24 with another pesky grain train in the way. http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?4,2108410 cp1400 Your Business Train Headquarters. In other words - is NS or CSX sending cars? Would the IAIS or the MRL even consider such a move? As for pricey rooms - I'd bet hauling a fleet of OCS cars to the Great White North cost a pretty penny. Must be a "spare no expense" type of promotion - true? Great shots! /Mitch Date: 01/24/10 19:03 Re: Kansas City Southern & Pacific? Author: Lee_in_KC I'm buyin' me some KCS stock!
