BNSF 5764
Author: funnelfan

The BNSF 5764 was the second unit in my train today. It was sporting a spotless coat of fresh paint, but had signs of a wreck rebuild. A check of the card showed it was out of service from January to March 8th. I found a photo back from January when it sported a large amount of primer paint, but couldn't dig up info on what wreck it was involved in. Does anyone know when and where this unit got all shook up?

Poking around the FRA site turns up report SF0609114 of a "side collision" at Sleeper, MO (ex-Frisco east of Springfield and Lebanon, west of Rolla) on June 29, 2009 at 8:20am:

"M-STLTUL1-29A (with BNSF 5764 leading) TRAVELING WEST FAILED TO COMPLY WITH SIGNAL DISPLAYING STOP AT WEST END OF SLEEPER, MO STRIKING THE SIDE OF THE REAR END OF TRAIN H-TULGAL9-28A THAT WAS STOPPED IN SIDING BUT NOT IN CLEAR OF MAIN DUE TO EXCESSIVE LENGTH."

3 of 3 locomotives and 5 of 100 cars on the M-STLTUL derailed, along with 7 of 136 cars on the H-TULGAL. Two injuries on the M-STLTUL, but no deaths or Hazmat release. About $950,000 total in equipment damage and $341,000 in track damage.

rrpicturearchives.net has oodles of pictures of BNSF 5764, including some in January 2010 of the unit waiting to be painted at Mid America Car.
