Anybody in California missing a Black Widow?
Author: burlingtonjohn

Thanks to a tip from Q-GP30, I was able to shoot these pictures at the BNSF West Quincy Missouri yards this evening and still make it home in time for the Cardinals game. Life is good.

Regards,
Burlington John

Sure is good to see an SD9, even if it isn't a Q vet ...

So what's the story?

And are there three NWP/Black Widow SD9s still running?

(Yes we have one here in Colorado)

Have no clue as to why the locomotive is in Missouri or where it is going. When the phone rang, figured it was worth the effort to make the short run to West Quincy to shoot the engine ... only regret that it was dead ...

So there are two Omnitrax ones, one former one in California?? (Black Widow SD-9E-#5472 nee NWP Omitrax #4423), one still Omnitrax (OMLX 4327) here in Colorado, and this one?

And 4324 disappeared a few years ago, perhaps CRGX 100 is it?

Look at the NCRY SD9. That is your missing link.

CRGX is a Cargill (grains) reporting mark. So its likely going to or from a Cargill facility.

Are you saying the 5472 is now the CGRY 100?

Now that'd be nice...too bad we couldn't get the two Colorado ones together on a train...

The Niles Canyon SD9 was NWP 4423. The fine folks at the NCRY completely repainted NWP 4423 into Southern Pacific-lettered black widow paint with full light packages and the number 5472. It is most definitely not the unit that became CGRY 100.
