Western Railroad Discussion > Cotton Belt 9669 Visits Niles Jct.Date: 05/19/11 20:27 Cotton Belt 9669 Visits Niles Jct. Author: shed47 SSW GP60 9669 has certainly seen better days(such as leading doublestacks on the Sunset Route early in its career) but it's still good to see an unpatched scarlet and gray SP/SSW locomotive leading a UP train a full 15 years after the merger. The SSW9669-UP362 were the power for UP's Newark, CA-based LRM-54 local seen in three shots at Niles Jct. at 16:00 today. The train(which is actually backing) is using the Oakland Sub to Warm Springs Sub connector before heading for home on the Niles Sub.
What are we now down to, 30 to 40 unpatched SP/SSW units on UP's roster? Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 05/19/11 20:39 by shed47. Date: 05/19/11 20:34 Re: Cotton Belt 9669 Visits Niles Jct. Author: shed47 This is 9669's second tour of duty in Bay Area local service as it was briefly based in South San Francisco two years ago. The GP60 is seen in pre-yellow stripe form at the head of the Mission Bay Local in the yard at SSF in May 2009.

Here is SSW 9647 on the UP Navasota Sub (near Plantersville, TX) on February 24, 2011. No yellow frame stripe on this one! Date: 05/21/11 01:00 Re: Cotton Belt 9669 Visits Niles Jct. Author: Fizzboy7 She's lookin great! A good catch indeed. I like how the "Cotton Belt" lettering is getting treated to the same scorch/rust pattern as the old SD40T/45's once got. Sharp!
