Interesting, looks like it was an Express truck. Those guys are company drivers and are usually very safe.

Tell you what, sit at Sheldon St in San Fernando Valley and watch these guys. All you need is a half hour and you will change your tune. These idiots constantly park doubles across multiple tracks waiting for the traffic light. Plenty of broken gates from these clowns. Wish we had a traffic cam there, there would be plenty of Ex-Fed drivers.

>>DPS says a FedEx truck tried to cross the railroad tracks and was hit by a train traveling at 45 miles per hour. The driver of the truck reportedly did not see or hear the train coming.

“The train was unable to stop in time before striking the truck on its side,” said DPS Trooper Robbie Barrera.<<

Yes trooper, most trains traveling at 45 mph can stop in a short distance. Although technically what you said is true, it's like saying in an accident report caused by poor lighting "The sun was unable to stay above the horizon line longer causing the dark conditions..."

must be the Fed-Ex driver who got caught on security cam throwing a flat screen TV over the fence of a gated property

Private crossing only protected by a stop sign... Wonder how many times the FedEx driver had become accustomed to just rolling over the crossing without stopping.

Was it still in the carton or not??
The FedEx Express and Ground drivers who deliver to my company are solid, professional folks but you've got screwballs in every occupation.

The reporter said that UP said that it was not required to blow the whistle for a private crossing! Is that true?

It's karma from the time FedEx was delivering an H-5 signal relay to me. He got spooked by my in-law's dog and rather than call for help since we were outside already, he just threw the box on the ground. The relay was destroyed and is only good as a parts pile. Karma's a b**** Fed Ex.

I guess the reporter was right. She said "the conductor" did not have to honk the horn. It's a shame that these people don't know that the engineer is the one that blows the horn. Everyone knew that when I was a kid. Guess these younger folks just don't know.

That is correct, FRA regulations only require the whistle at public crossings. Railroads are not required to blow the whistle for private crossings unless there is a state or local law that requires them to. In the west, the states of California, Idaho and Montana do require whistling for private crossings. Texas, where this incident occurred, does not have such a law.
