Hoppers As Loads
Author: ATSF2921

Earlier today, I seen two flat bed tractor-trailers with each carrying a covered hopper, minus trucks, rolling through Gardner, Ks today. Reporting marks on the 2nd one are "CMO 840706". The 1st one was too far ahead in traffic. I only saw the top and one end of CMO 840706 and didn't see any damage, so I don't know was involved in a derailmemt.

Does anyone know if these might have been from a derailment?

TIA.

Could these be grain cars from that derailment down near Osawatomie, that happened a couple of months ago?

UP trace doesn't even recognize that car as existing, so that would suggest to me that they're done for, and may have been written off for a while. Which direction were they headed?

They were heading East through downtown. I had to stop at Casey's, and they kept going East. I thought they might have gone onto I-35.

I have seen some covered hoppers being used as feed silos on farms.
