Seligman Sub Trip: Day 4 - West Eagle Nest
Author: gjc

This is Day 4 of a 9 day railfan trip along the Seligman Sub, AZ. We(Curt, SVTS and myself) arrived at this location shortly after 9am. We only saw 5 trains here between 9am and 12:45pm, all west bounds. This video shows the 3rd train at 10:24am.

What a great location to be at; during the night you can see trains coming WB for almost 10 min before they get to you there...always was curious what was on the other side of the cut if you continue west, but my little car could barely get me to your overlook much less past that!

It's a beautiful location, really glad I made it there after 2 other attempts starting back in 2007.

Did you camp out when you were there? I wouldn't want to drive back during the evening. It's in the middle of nowhere and could easily get lost.

I'm pretty curious too. Has anybody been west of this spot?

I'm amazed that you could get out to this spot in a car.

It was a rough and slow ride even for my Suburban, but well worth it. I think out of all the places we went to on this trip, West Eagle Nest was the best location. But between the road into Crozier, the road to West Eagle Nest and the road to Canyon Diablo, the road to West Eagle nest was by far the worse and as George said, you are waaay out there in the middle of nowhere should something happen to your car or you get lost.

West of there to Crookton is just cuts and fills. There are probably some decent photo spots, but nothing like what's presented here.

Those just started showing up a few months ago. They have small lettering on the side that says 'COFC Logistics'. Don't know much more about them though.

Just for fun thanks for not adding the "s" to Eagle. I lived in Flagstaff for 20 years and this and the Canyon Diablo Bridge were go shot spots and were not to far away. Those stretches of straight rail west of Winslow also caught my eye now and then because you could the trains from a long ways off.
