Winter has come early to the Inland Empire. That's the original Inland Empire you LA Basin wannabes!!! ;^P I got my first real chance Monday to get out and photograph trains in the snow (then worked 12 hours on a train, but that's another story). I first hit Marshall Canyon and scored a coal train with something that wasn't orange leading. Next I went to Espanola and notice a eastbound was lined up. After a ten minute wait I caught a Evergreen Stack Train highballing toward Spokane. But the real goal was a Eastern Washington Gateway train that I knew was coming in from Davenport to Cheney. Greg was the engineer of this train and referred to me as the "Railroad Paparazzi". Greg is a good hard working guy, and well entitled to his opinions.

The Eastern Washington Gateway RR runs the former NP CW Line to Coulee City. The line has a sawtooth profile of 1.2% grades and is riddled with sharp curves. I was hired on a locomotive engineer a couple months ago, and finally got a chance to railfan my own railroad. I delivered the hopper in the last photo last week to Coulee City, and was eager to get a good photo of this bit of graphitti.

Ted, those are real grainy looking shots, you need to clean your lens. That, and
don't remind us of the white stuff, it's going to come soon enough. Cool though
that you get to railfan your own employer, I like the shots, kinda gives me some
inspiration to get out of the cave this winter and shoot some Nebraska Central.

Ted: I always love your photos and your commentary!

As for the term "Railroad Paparazzi," you should wear it with a great deal of pride!

I think it is a lot better than being called a "foamer!"

It sure brought a big smile to my face.

The symbol is S TACLPC1 11D, not whatever is in your frame on the image.

That's ok Ted. We're generaly given the "909" handle anyway, based on the area code that took the place of 714 about 30 some years ago. It is kind of a derogatory term based on many factors, none of them positive. Nice "winter-time" photos by the way. Thanks for braving the elements!

It's been in use here in Southern California for over a hundred years. Try again.

Also heard Bay Area and South Bay Area during commercials on KNX, like I said you have the majority on public opinion. Those have been used for other areas for a long time. Not quite as common as the fabled 'Tri-Cities' area, which every state seems to have at least two or three of.

If I remember right, the postal cancellation for postage stamps was "Inland Empire" for the east side of Washington.

I am in the Sou Cal Inland Empire.

I can see why Spokane wants to emulate Southern California. Well, maybe after a snow event.

Well the Pacific Northwest version of the Inland Empire dates well over a 100 years and even was the name of the local interurban railroad;
