BNSF Mendota Sub/CREATE Question
Author: CSXT_8437

Good Morning:

I hope all have had a great Thanksgiving.

With the downturn in coal traffic, are there any plans by BNSF to shift any traffic between Chicago and Galesburg from the former Santa Fe or Aurora Sub to the Mendota Subdivision? I read on an earlier post that some lower priority intermodal traffic was moved from the Aurora Sub to make room for oil trains. It seems like this route is a viable option. I am curious as this is my favorite area to railfan when I am in the Chicago area.

Also, are there plans to build a connection from Corwith to Cicero along the old PRR Panhandle right of way that is next to the CSX Blue Island Sub as part of the CREATE project? I think I remember seeing this on a map a couple years ago.

Thank you in advance.

Yes, this is still in the CREATE program as project WA-4.
