Not seen one for several weeks . Stored awaiting repairs to the fuel leak problem ? Anybody know?

Plenty of GEVOs in the PNW corridor. A few ACes manage to be the leaders and often seem to be the rear DP unit(s).

There are 10 or so stored in Pine Bluff, AR at the moment.

Yeah all the 2013 Gevo's UP has gotten are in storage until GE can fix the fuel leaks. The Fuel system is pressuized to 30,000 psi & will cut right though you if open the doors whiles the engine is running & its leaking. So for safety UP is storing them until there fixed by GE.

Thanks for the prompt replies. How embarassing especially with th e7964 proclaiming it is the 5000th of its type!

Are you sure 30,000 psi is way high.

More likely 3,000 psi. I suspect the stuttering zero key got held down a nanosecond too long. A 3,000 psi stream will still ruin your day.

Yeah, ruin your day as in remove a couple of fingers before you know what happened. [ouch!]

Yeah, that's what my locomotive director said Omaha told him. So it may only be 3000 psi. Most of those college boys in Omaha don't even know what a locomotive is.

I believe the latest EVO's are equipped with HPCR (High Pressure Common Rail) injection systems. If so then 30,000psi is not too high.

What is it made of, titanium? Also, with that much pressure with all of that vibration. I can just about guarantee leaks!

2013? Are they selling locomotives like they sell cars? One model year ahead?

ULEV diesel will require 60,000 to 100,000 psi, get used to it.

What is the advantage of such high pressures to deliver fuel?

Again remind why GE is #1 in the locomotive market?

Better atomization/vaporization of the fuel charge

I did a truck delivery to a custom metal fabrication shop one time. They were cutting steel with super high pressure water jets, mixed with silica powder. The guy told me I wouldn't even know my hand would be cut off, the stream was so strong.

I believed him. I stood there, behind the safety glass, watching the water jet precisely cut stainless steel into perfect shapes for productiong work. All by water cutting. Amazing.

High pressure ain't nothing to fool around with.

My brother said they would locate high pressure steam leaks at the Navy Yard by waving around a wood 2 x 4. When a piece of the board fell off, you'd found the leak!

Before the new delivery 79xx and 80xx GEVO's ended up near Hobart Tower as witnessed by MrMRL the other day, many of them were parked in Roseville in a deadline fashion. They came west to California on the ZG2LT's and meandered on the ILTLT (Lathrop - Oakland - Lahtrop intermodal, "The Shuttle") for a few days before being parked.

I caught the 7964 on its only trip out here, being towed DIC from Oakland to Roseville on the MOARV, pulled by the boring but reliable 52xx GEVO's.

Gee I was hoping that these units were being scrapped and the UP was buying some EMd's instead of GE Junk
