More from todays Mare Island Steel train.
Author: weather

Image # 4 shows the engineers comparing notes before leaving Flossden Jct in Vallejo. The Mare Island engineer is Darrel Tillcock who is also the engineer on the Napa Valley Wine Train on weekends. Darrel spent many years with the SP and started out as a steam fireman and has written several books.

In the fifth photo, the train pulls past the Alston Building where the Amtrak contract work is being performed and heads around the WYE to turn the train and switch the engine to the rear end for the shove down Railroad Avenue.

The final shot shows the train entering XKT facility and the end of the active railroad on Mare Island which covers several miles including a branch which goes up to Alco Metals near the east end of the Highway 37 Mare Island Bridge.

Submitted by Mike Pechner from my I phone. I didn't have time to send the prints to get transferred to a DVD.
