Good news for coal exporters

US coal mining shares rose strongly today on news that China has reaffirmed its growth targets for the economy. Since China draws a significant amount of its electric energy from coal, some of it imported, that's good news.

Alpha Natural Resources was up 8%, Peabody was up 5% among major US firms. Arch was up substantially, as well.

Norfolk Southern stock was up 2.29%.

NS down about 20% from its high for the year though. Hopefully it will creep back up.
