Western Railroad Discussion > UP Operating RulesDate: 12/05/12 09:54 UP Operating Rules Author: highballer1 I have an older copy of the Union Pacific Operations Book, but it doesn't cover all the rules that I hear being called out by 68 Omaha pertaining to crossings or other operational road rules. One being Rule ####.#.# pertaining to crossings. Anyone out there have any of that information.
Date: 12/05/12 10:48 Re: UP Operating Rules Author: ButteStBrakeman I've never heard of rule ####.#.#

I all seriousness, he is probably referring to one of the rules under 6.32. If one searches the World Wide Web for Sixth Edition GCOR, they should be able to find a current copy of the rules. Date: 12/05/12 12:16 Re: UP Operating Rules Author: HistoryBuff The crossing protection rules that he is referring to are probably rule XG, XH or XS for faulty crossing gates or signals and require extra protection from the crews before entering the crossing. These are in the System Special Instructions under rule 6.32.2 Automatic Warning Device Application.

V SLOCONDR Date: 12/05/12 14:16 Re: UP Operating Rules Author: highballer1 Thank you all for the answers, even the smartalecky ones!!! I am at work and couldn't think of the particular rule that was called out last night over the scanner. I found the GCOR online and printed it out.

Naw, not us....lol V SLOCONDR Date: 12/05/12 17:53 Re: UP Operating Rules Author: EtoinShrdlu The Rules Thou Shalt Obey include modifications made by the SSI. Therefore, you would have to look in the Rule book and the SSI -- both the System and Subdivision ones-- to ascertain precisely what rule #####.#.# is.

In another life I was a Lieutenant in the Air Force. I was an ICBM launch officer in North Dakota. We had checklists that we used to, in theory, shoot missiles at the Soviets. As confusing as the RR rules are, get this: If we found an error in a missile launch checklist we had to deal with a "memory item" - that is, something that wasn't documented or written down, but you had to comply with anyway or have no career from that point forward - and perhaps nuke the WRONG target.
