Getting Ready to Go Back
Author: kodachrome9319

I have some time off this month between Christmas and New Years, so why not use it on something cool, blue and EMD? I've been reviewing my photos and eyeing the lineups, and now I'm awful antsy to get back to the land of the Montana Rail Link. Here's just 3 images from my last adventure, hopefully this one will be as successful and awesome as the last!

Pack for a North Dakota winter. Long handles, boots with good lugs, a couple of cans of soup in the car with sleeping bags, good tires. Have some fun.

Nice trio of shots! No matter what angle photos are taken, I've always thought that the MRL paint scheme is pretty classy!

Is that 332 still an SD-45 or is it an SD45-2

Don't forget the shovel. Stuck in the snow on top of lonely Mullan Pass (in fading light) is not fun. :D

Mr. MRL ~ ask me how I know...

Extra car keys on Mullan are a must as well, like for instance, in case you are hiking in around the horseshoe curve at Austen and you manage to have your keys fall out of your pocket an hour before sunset...not that I have any firsthand experience with such disasters...

At start up in '87 there was some gossip that there was some Japanese funding in the take-over.
(But you didn't hear it from me... ;^)

MRL 332 was the former EL 3657,an SDP-45, she was wrecked on the EL and went to their Hornell,NY shop and came back with a new -2 long hood and -2 electronics and may I add its fantastic to see her alive and well!

Nope!

And regarding the Red Dot on the nose, I believe I was told by Mr MRL, that it was CEECO's symbol, that was put on when that company repainted the units.
