Just Autos and a Passenger

Had to be in Oklahoma City these past four days from Thursday to Sunday without much railfanning but I heard about a slideshow at the Santa Fe depot in Norman, OK that was worth the short drive over to. However the train traffic was very low, only a northbound empty auto train and the Heartland Flyer between 7:15 PM and 12:30 AM. The auto train was running just about on the Flyer's schedule and the Flyer was an hour late, coming in at 10PM. According to the conductor, maintenance in Fort Worth and southbound trains have been killing their time into Oklahoma City lately. It was a fun evening and here's the total of the excitement. By the way, this was all free hand as I had no tripod to work with.

1) Everybody runs out to the platform expecting Amtrak but instead get greeted by an empty auto train with one unit passing by

2) The sun slowly goes down into the clouds while FRED blinks away

3) Finally, Amtrak rolls up to the platform for the major excitement of the night

More to come....

4) Just messing around while the train is stopped, the moon barely rises over the station

5) The AMT conductor on the right chats with the slideshow host on the left while families gather in the background

6) After talking to some people the engineer climbs in ready for the short trip into Oklahoma City where the train will overnight before going south to Ft Worth at 825 the next morning

7) The crowds have left and the conductor is ready to board

8) You'd now never know a passenger train was here less than 3 minutes ago
