Western Railroad Discussion > DRGW Derrick 030 in DenverDate: 07/30/13 17:53 DRGW Derrick 030 in Denver Author: HistoryBuff In Railtime's post below, someone asked about a side shot of the train.
http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,3142019 a side shot is impossible since there are tracks with cars on one side and a fence on the other. But the best I can do is some better shots of Derrick DRGW 030 from a day I was able to shoot about 50-60 detailed shots of this derrick. DRGW 030 150 Ton Derrick with Rio Grande Boom Car AX-3330 Taken in Denver's North Yard. October 1, 2005. I think that DRGW 028 is still in Grand Junction, CO. on the wreck train stationed there. Thank you for the pics. upkpfan Date: 07/30/13 18:53 Re: DRGW Derrick 030 in Denver Author: 2ebright Here is a shot of the D&RGW(now UP)crane 028 in Price River Canyon, Utah on Sept. 26,2007. It is a 250 ton Bucyrus built in 1942 and nicknamed "Sampson de Grande". Anyone know the origin of the nickname?

According to the Green Light, at the time, the winner was "Samson (Sampson) de Grande." Other less pleasant names were offered as well. This was uncovered by Jerry Day while we perused old issues at the Colorado Railroad Museum Library.
